Winona Lake MTB Trails Re-opened

2010 June 17
by gregdemop

The Old Chicago Boys Club / Winona Lake MTB Trails are back open, but tread lightly. There still are several muddy corners we’re actively trying to repair. Pick the driest lines in corners, however, be careful to not widen the trail.

Avoid SKYWAY, WAGONER’S and PATIENCE. These sections are still closed and marked off with signs and tape. Please respect the closure of these sections. The least amount of traffic means the sooner they can fully recover.

If you would like to help us get the trails back into shape, please consider heading out there with a rake and shovel. Returning the dirt and mud in an even fashion back to the corners will allow them to finish draining and drying. We can then go in and determine what corners need dirt/gravel added or completely reworked.

Thanks for helping take care of our local trails!

Winona Lake MTB Trails Closed Until Further Notice

2010 June 13
by gregdemop

As much as we don’t want to do this, we have decided to close the trails for the next couple days.

With rain off and on expected in the forecast and the steady rain we have received over the last week, there are several sections and corners of trail that need time to properly dry out and drainage bars redug.

Over the next few days, please respect this decision. As tempting as it may be and even though the weather could be warm and it may seem great outside, the constant riding through the mudholes is expanding sections and creating further erosion.

If you would like to be on the trails, please consider joining us in repairing sections. Over the next couple days, when the weather is good, we will be rebuilding some corners and fixing drainage bars. Please let us know if you’re interested.

Please help us spread the word on this, and politely remind people if you see them on the trails. We will post some signs as well, but we all know that signs don’t stop everyone.

Thank you for understanding!

2nd Mile Adventures Dunes Day Ride – Saturday, June 19

2010 June 13
by gregdemop

Since the trails are muddy and closed until further notice, it’s time to dust off those road legs.

One of the best rides of the year and quite possibly in the area is the 2nd Mile Adventures Dunes Day Ride. If you’re looking for a challenge, but need some friendly support to encourage you, you’ll love riding the Dunes Day.

Meet at Trailhouse on Saturday, June 19th at 5:30am and leave at 6am to head for Warren Dunes State Park in Michigan. 72 turns and 92 miles of country roads await, along with a great dip in Lake Michigan at the end.

Registration is $30, which includes Transportation back from the dunes and an event t-shirt. Or for $20 you can get your event t-shirt, meet your family or friends up there and make an evening of it. Either way, it’ll be a ride you won’t soon forget. Bring some $ for food stops; breakfast in Bremen, lunch in New Carlisle and dinner on the way home.

Sign up online at 2nd Mile Adventures.
